Tomorrow I’ll be shooting my cousins. I’m taking them to some ruins by my mom’s house and I’m looking forward to it. It’ll be pretty fun. I think it’ll give me the chance to play with some different techniques – plus I’ll be able to get some nice sibling pics. That’s not something I got to do a whole lot of at the portrait studio (especially teenagers). It’ll also give me a chance to explore the location – which I haven’t gotten a chance to do since the first Diana/Holga adventure with Kerri. Mine didn’t come out, so here are a few of Kerri’s.

I’m thinking a Diana redemption tomorrow!!
Today’s prints I wasn’t entirely satisfied with. Maybe I was a little speedy with them. Maybe the chemicals were a bit off. Either way, next time, I’ll conquer them for sure. I was starting to work on the cards that I’m considering selling. This set was routed in the abandoned amusement park that Kerri and I found.
It feels good to get back into doing some work after being sick and all the updating on the website. A few weeks ago, Kerri visited and we actually managed to get some work done. Now she lives in State College, PA (and has access to a darkroom, which means I have to go and visit her regularly). I played model for some of her grad school work. I want to see it – even though it was a little awkward having photos taken of me not acting like a jerk. It was kind of fun, too.
It’s been a while since I’ve taken any photos. I’m itching to get out soon and I’m planning a trip back to the amusement park soon, actually. Unfortunately, Kerri has my flash. That blows, but it also means that I get to experiment with new ways of lighting things. I can’t complain. Although, I do need people to come play with me. Any takers?
So, I’m still working out this what I like to shoot things – or rather, how I like to shoot people. I say this because I generally wouldn’t think of using people as a subject last year. Now they’re kind of fun. Sometimes. But not in the studio portrait or general portrait sense. I’m kind of over that after a year of it. I feel like I’ve got better things to do. The new adventure is how might I want to incorporate people into what I do.
Cards up later tonight.

updates
Over the weekend, the transparencies I needed to try out cyanotypes with enlarged negatives. It was cloudy out, but I tried making a few more today. I was really excited to try them and the results came out pretty well considering my limited sunlight. I’m also starting to becoming more aware of how the chemicals react.
Here are the results.

In other news, Kerri’s coming down this weekend! There will definitely be a lot of updates afterwards.

Yesterday, I had a little fun in my kitchen with chemicals. No foul play, of course. What I was working on was the “New” Cyanotype solution – which is comprised of some pretty serious chemicals (next time I think I might go with the traditional kit). I wasn’t sure if I’d done it right, however, I did manage to make a photogram yesterday. I think I’m on the right track and have even ordered some transparencies and laser printer ink.
Nancy Breslin introduced me to the UV photo process in the black and white course I took with her a few summers ago. We didn’t do anything with them, but watched as she worked with them. Kerri experimented with them in Nancy’s alternative processes course and continued to work with them in other courses and on silk during her artist residency in Berkeley, CA. Now, it’s my turn.
Anyway, this was the fruit of my labor. I’ll be working on more in the next few weeks, too.

These photos have been a long time coming, however I kept them hidden for fear of my job (that and I haven’t had time to sit down and watermark all of them). Things have changed a little and I think that showing them off is pretty important.
I shot this wedding in Havre de Grace, Maryland in September 2009 with my good friend Kerri O’Neill. She covered the groom and his men, while I followed the ladies (and eventually became a groomsman). The wedding was on a boat during the sunset. It was pretty awesome.
