A few weeks ago, I shot a roll of 120 film at night along Kirkwood Highway. When I emptied the camera, the film was pretty loose on the spool. It didn’t look good, but I saved it in a dark bag in hopes that it would be salvageable. It was not. Luckily for me, because I’m still testing out my new light meter, I brought my digital camera along as a tester.
All of the buildings (with the exception of the church) were defunct businesses. The buffet in the last photo was just recently torn down.
These are essentially the images I shot with the Diana (except these are all 35mm, not medium format):

I spent the weekend in New York, visiting my dad. I must admit, I had an ulterior motive.
During the visit, I snuck away to Manhattan to visit the glorious photo superstore B&H to make a much needed purchase!
Thanks to the advice of the very nice salesman there, I went with a Sekonic L-358 Flash Master.

Now I’ll be more comfortable shooting my long exposures with film!
Results should hopefully be coming up in a few weeks!
In January 2008, as I was driving down to Towson, I came across this place at the side of the road, so I decided to take pictures of it.
This is the Beehive.

I returned last week with Kerri and this time, photographed the area using Diana F+. Considering I only liked one from the first photoshoot, it’s pretty clear that this one went much better.
Upon hearing that Happy Harry’s was having a $.09 print sale, I decided to experiment with Diana’s new 35mm back and some consumer-grade Kodak film.
After 3.5 rolls (one had been previously exposed, aha), I learned my lesson with all the grainy prints I received. The price for professional-grade is definitely worth it.

Enter 2010.
I’m not one for year end of the year surveys. Instead, I just want to reflect on 2009 and what I’ve accomplished.
In 2009, I:
- graduated from Towson University, Cum Laude, with a B.A. in Mass Communications. I was short one course of completing a creative writing minor.
- completed two small websites – one which featured a multimedia project on Baltimore.
- created ShleeVincent.com and began to create and manage a blog and online portfolio.
- got a plastic toy camera called Diana F+ and began experimenting with medium format photography and film.
- attained a full-time job at a portrait studio.
- moved in and began collaborating with Kerri O’Neill.
- documented the Whartscape Festival for DTR Webzine.
- used my passport and ventured to Montreal.
- was inducted into Lambda Pi Eta (a mass communications honor society).
It’s been an interesting year and with no concrete plans for 2010, I can only say, “Is this real life?”
