From back alleys to rooftop shows Whartscape has certainly created unique atmosphere for its yearly festival.
Whartscape – a play on words between it’s founders (Wham City) and Baltimore’s free art festival that influenced it (Artscape) – is a music and arts festival aimed for the young people of Baltimore.
Taking place this weekend (July 10-12, 2009), Whartscape ’09 is the fourth annual event. This year’s is supposed to be toned down from previous years excitement, giving it more of a community feel. Events will be taking place in the Maryland College Institute of Art parking lot, at the Baltimore Museum of Art and Load of Fun.
The festival is fully funded by the artists who make up Wham City.
Only 300 Mega Passes – with access to all of the shows – were allotted and sold out with in the first week (granted, tickets were only put on sale two weeks before the festival).
Whartscape ’09 will be featuring familiars such as Dan Deacon and Ponytail along with newcomers, visitors and other favorites.
My last update was a little flaky. Hopefully this is a little less so.
Since Monday, I’ve been active once again in the Down the Road scene. DTR is an online music publication whos content consists of interviews with bands, concert photography, features and reviews.
Marine and Gabby have been working hard on a new layout and are proudly presenting their fourth version of the website.
North by Northeast provided DTR a nice break in allowing us to cover it. Additionally, we’ve covered Edgefest sponsored by Toronto radio station 102.1 The Edge.
With a slew of new content to complement the new layout, we’ve got to promote, promote, promote! That’s where I come in. As Communications First Officer, I’ve been put in charge of the DTR’s MySpace, Twitter and Facebook pages.
At the same time, I’ll be doing my best to represent the Baltimore and Philadelphia-based events.
So far, it’s going well.
Is a webzine that I worked for in the past. Now that I’m getting on top of things, I’ve just started my duties as “Communications First Officer” tonight by creating the ‘zine’s new MySpace.
We also have a Twitter.
Check them out. Everything is quite new in the works – the Web site itself is getting a new look (and address). So it should be a great adventure.
New content will be up soon. An interview with Moneen and coverage of two music festivals in Toronto North by Northeast and Edgefest.
More on the way as things pick up!
.. is a part of my life, too. Outside of my “attempt” at a music project, my interest in writing “professionally” came from music. In fact, at one point, I had intentions of beginning a magazine. That dream is now stashed with a lot of others – but it’s a good conversation piece.
I did work with a small music-based webzine called Down the Road. We did reviews and interviews and it was fun. Eventually, the last two years of college became my priority and I veered away from the site.
With college out of the way, I’m still currently strapped for time, but I’m managing to get some things done. So far as I know, I’m becoming affiliated with DTR again. Hopefully, my writing will thrive once more. I’ll be back with some more on that later.
